Thoughts on Quantico

This is a show I wasn’t expecting much from. In some ways, I wasn’t surprised… but it didn’t leave me without hope.

Yes, it’s another review of a new TV show. There will be a few more of these and then they’ll trail off a bit once the new season is all up and running. That won’t mean an end to reviews, it’ll just mean they’ll move on to movies, existing shows, and other things with a bit more of a shelf life. Maybe mid-season I’ll revisit this batch of shows, maybe not.

Tomorrow’s kind of a big day… vlog number 10. It’s not going to be anything particularly fancy, vlog-wise, but a milestone none the less.

Hopefully, all y’all are enjoying this somewhat.

Here’s today’s vlog

Heroes: Then and Now

Diving back into an old favorite setting is always interesting.

I was a big fan of the original Heroes show when it aired. So much that I stuck with it through the seriously problematic second season and the two uneven seasons that followed that. There were a lot of missed opportunities and missteps.

But that first season… that first season was so solid and so different from most of the other stuff on TV at the time. This was before the explosion of super hero movies on the big screen. Before everyone was doing it. It was risky and it was a big deal for those of us who were into such things.

I’m hoping at least the first season of Heroes: Reborn is like that. So far, I’m happy enough with it to not feel betrayed by the hype. (Though I am a bit annoyed at the hype… and having so much groundwork done in an online set of shorts that I’m sure a lot of people haven’t watched… that’s a problem Lost ran into.)

So, here’s today’s rambling on the show, then and now.

I just finished watching Quantico, so I’m going to go talk about that a little, for tomorrow.

Comics in a Box Every Month

A couple of weeks ago, I subscribed to the Comic Bento service. They’re kind of like Loot Crate and a number of other services that ship out a box full of stuff to their subscribers once a month.

In this case, as you may have guessed from the name, it’s comic books.

I picked Comic Bento because it’s the only one I’ve come across so far that, when checking out past shipments, I saw absolutely nothing that made me think “Well, that would just get put away in a corner until I finally threw it out or re-gifted it to someone.” Seriously, there are some Loot Crates I’ve seen where there was nothing that interested me.

But Comic Bento… well… they’re comic books. I’ve never really gone all that wrong in the past with comics. Even the “bad” ones have some redeeming quality… even if it is just inspiration to “do better than that.”

In today’s vlog, I open that first box. I’m pretty happy with what I found.

(Also, upon slightly closer reading, I’ve realized that  Executive Assistant Iris is from the team that did Witchblade… which I do actually own some issues of from back in the day and I also enjoyed the short-lived, Yancy Butler fronted, TV series. I just didn’t recognize the names when I saw them.)

Looking Into Blindspot

Yep, pretty clear that if I want to quickly crank things out, the key is to do reviews or other things like this. Rattled it off pretty quickly, not a lot of editing needed, and it’s a current topic.

Some reviews will also keep for a while, making them great for a safety net.

The evolving plan is to do a few reviews like this every weekend–though usually of movies or things that have a more of a shelf-life than just aired pilots–and I’ll use that to build up a safety net that I can dip into when circumstances keep me from being able to do something brand new any given day.

Oh, and this show I’m reviewing in this vlog? It has a bit of promise. I really enjoyed the pilot and they did a good job of setting things up for at least the first season. We’ll see where else they go with it.

So, check out today’s vlog and let me know what you think about the show (if you’ve seen it).

Minority Report in Review

It’s the new TV season so I have my pick of shows to talk about. So I’m going to.

These are comparatively quick and easy vlogs to crank out. Plus, I can also roll them over to ToobTalk (assuming I make the time to write up slightly more in-depth reviews).

This time around it’s a quick rundown of the things I generally didn’t like about the new Minority Report series. I’m still willing to give it a chance, but it’s starting out in a bit of a hole because of this first episode.

I think I’ll shoot another one or four of these this weekend, that’ll give me a little bit of a buffer for the coming weeks when I have things going on after work. I should also make sure the posting to YouTube from my phone works… that way I can still get something up even if I don’t want to burn a bugger video.

Anyway, here’s today’s bit of me jawin’ at the camera
