More of a Mixed Bag

This entry is part [part not set] of 100 in the series Today's Tidbits

Still kind of ridiculously busy… but I still found myself really digging in to some of the articles in the feed today.

Particularly the one about the guy who just kind of ran off to live in the woods for over two decades. Granted, he had no human contact and kind of stole everything he needed… but the basic idea is kind of appealing.

Of course, I’d also be just fine with a one way trip to Mars. So I may not be the best judge of these things.

There are also some neat tech bits. A totally tricked out “camping” trailer (not really camping if you have the equivalent of  a small house with you–complete with A/C and TV) and some revolutionary solar cells that are near indistinguishable from regular windows.

Other highs and lows make their appearance, as one would expect with the way the last couple of weeks have gone. I’m well on my way to being totally burnt out on outrage.

So, just check it all out for yourself… maybe get involved in one of the ongoing conversations I haven’t had time for.

Here’s the feed…

Al at Number One, Wrong Number Hijinks, Remixed News, White Flags Flying, and Galaxy Hopping to Kill Hitler

The feed is a little light today. Mostly because so much of the news was so heavy. I didn’t feel like sharing it.

That and I was busy. But mostly the too heavy thing.

Some days, there’s just so much bad news going around–both in the world at large and among the people I know–that I can’t in good conscience add to that. So, instead you get a wacky plot where Harrison Ford and James Earl Jones travel through time and space to kill Hitler (as Indiana Jones and Darth Vader). Or pit bulls cuddling on a couch. Or 20 Simpsons quotes that get used by people all the time.

And not a whole lot of actual news.

That news is out there, everyone is seeing in their feed already. All the death and imminent destruction promised by actions happening in the Middle East and Ukraine. All the political wranglings that serve mostly to dehumanize people with problems (or just differing opinions) so some privileged politico of mogul can maintain their own bit of superiority.

You really can’t escape it.

No matter how much you want to some days.

The least I can do is not throw it at you.

Because then I’d have to look at it all the more when you comment… usually with more sense than anyone making the news does (which is the one good thing about it all).

Anyway, here’s what passes for today’s feed…

Working a Pole, Hoofin’ It, Haunted Island For Sale, Toxic Interpretation, Our Panopticon, Sacred Nature, and a New Moon

Anyone who knows me, knows I have an affinity for creepy things. Maybe it’s because I grew up on classic horror films. Maybe it’s because I’m just a morbid bastard. The why doesn’t really matter…

I’ve often said that I’d pay extra for a haunted house. It’s true. I would. So when I see a place that’s billed “the most haunted place in the world” go up for sale, I truly lament my lack of billions of dollars to toss around with wild abandon.

And it really warms my dark and twisted little heart when I see a bunch of other people I know responding to the news in the same, gleeful way.

Some day, we’ll all have our own haunted island. And we’ll just dare the rest of you to come and visit.
